Home > Steelhead Spinner Tactic
Hi Paul,
Small black hair spinners with silver blades are my favorite for steelhead and many other species but they don’t’ cast that far and the big ones require a faster retrieve (more casting) to avoid snagging the bottom. Another bad thing about spinners is if they quit spinning freely at the swivel they can twist the line a couple hundred times in one cast. This will kill the casting distance and cause tangles quicker then you can flip the bail. Twisting has ruined my line and my day too many times. The solution I found is to use a bobber so only my leader can get twisted if the swivel locks up from weeds, silt or sand. I like that a bobber can add distance to my cast with small spinners. My favorite bobber is your BulletBobber because they reduce or eliminate the need to recast so I can keep my spinner spinning all day, without worrying about ruining my line. I like the green/orange color for my visibility at long distances and that they also come in clear for the fish’s invisibility. I also used a magic marker to make a couple black bobbers becasue sometimes black will work better then other colors or even clear for Steelhead.
I would suggest folks try the 2”, 2.5" and the 3” sizes for a little versatility in spinner sizes and flow rates.
Great Invention!
Thanks,
